GATINEAU, QC, March 20, 2013 /CNW/ - The Transportation Safety Board of
Canada (TSB) is deploying a team of investigators to the site of a
derailment in Smiths Falls, Ontario. At approximately 13:27 Eastern
Daylight Time, a CP freight train derailed 5 intermodal cars. One of
the cars contains dangerous goods, but it is not leaking and there is
no danger to the public. The TSB will gather information and assess the
occurrence.
The TSB is an independent agency that advances transportation safety by
investigating occurrences in the marine, pipeline, rail and air modes
of transportation. Its sole aim is the advancement of transportation
safety. It is not the function of the Board to assign fault or
determine civil or criminal liability.
