The Government of Canada celebrates National Aviation Day and calls for applications for the Federal Student Work Experience Program - Civil Aviation Internship

OTTAWA, Feb. 23, 2013 /CNW/ - Today marks Canada's fifth annual National Aviation Day. To mark the occasion, the Government of Canada is pleased to announce the call for applications for the Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP ) - Transport Canada Civil Aviation Internship Program.

"Aviation remains a key mode of transport in Canada and across the world", said the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities. "On this National Aviation Day, I would like to thank the men and women who work to keep Canadians moving and make sure our skies are safe and secure."

February 23 was first designated National Aviation Day in Canada in 2009 to celebrate Canada's rich aviation heritage, highlight the continued success of our aviation industry worldwide, and recognize the Government of Canada's important role in aviation for all Canadians.

This year again, Transport Canada is calling for applications to the new Civil Aviation Internship Program. The program is a unique chance to learn first-hand about civil aviation and gain valuable work experience.

The internship program is a paid, two-month summer work term at Transport Canada headquarters in Ottawa. It is open to students currently enrolled in grades 11 and 12, Secondary V or the first year of CEGEP.

Interested students must complete the FSWEP application online by April 5, 2013. Following this date, students will be contacted and asked to submit a 500-word essay as part of the evaluation process. Applicants must be fluent in either English or French, and be prepared to submit a letter of reference from a teacher and a parental consent form. The two successful interns will be notified by June 14, 2013.
