Improving situational awareness of aircraft traffic to/from air terminal
MADRID, Spain, Feb. 12, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - World ATM Congress, Stand
#826. - Searidge Technologies, provider of intelligent video solutions
to Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) and airports, announced
that their ATC-grade video system and intelligent video platform,
IntelliDAR™ have been selected to enhance Air Traffic Control (ATC)
tower situational awareness at WinnipegJames Armstrong Richardson
International Airport (YWG).
Winnipeg Airports Authority (WAA), owner and operator of Richardson
International Airport, has awarded Searidge a contract to provide
surface surveillance on the apron area and two adjoining taxiways north
of the airport's terminal building. The Searidge video solution will
enable air traffic controllers to have a clear view of the specified
area and result in a more efficient operation by eliminating the need
for time-consuming procedures currently used to manage the area and
subsequently increase throughput of the airport. It will also provide
controllers with tracking data of all vehicles in the ramp area and
will be integrated by NAV CANADA with the airport's existing Indra
Navia NOVA 9000 Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control System
(A-SMGCS) to provide smooth aircraft hand-off from two taxiways to the
new apron area. (For more detail see Indra Navia Integrate Searidge Intelligent Video to Deliver Seamless
Airport Surface Surveillance)
"Searidge offered a comprehensive solution that can immediately improve
our controllers' line-of-sight to the monitored area and the
flexibility to grow to accommodate our future requirements," says
Michael O'Gorman, Vice President Operations, Winnipeg Airports
Authority. "The system will enhance situational awareness for a key
stakeholder at our airport, NAV CANADA, reduce fuel burn for the
airlines, and maintain the highest level of safety."
The Searidge ATC-Grade video system continuously monitors and presents
real-time video feeds from digital camera sensors to a one-look display
- giving controllers a real-time view of the monitored area. Full
visual confirmation of the situation helps controllers effectively
manage the ground traffic with a high degree of confidence. IntelliDAR
is a robust, non-cooperative surveillance system that provides critical
detection, positioning, classification and tracking of all targets on
an airport surface. The system outputs surface movement reports in
ASTERIX format designed for seamless integration into the existing
A-SMGCS, providing users with a complete comprehensive view of all
activity on the airport surface.
"We are very excited to be working with another leading Canadian
airport," says Alex Sauriol, Vice President, ATM/airport technology,
Searidge Technologies. "With the implementation of our ATC-Grade Video
and IntelliDAR systems we are able to help address efficiency and
capacity challenges of today, while continuing to look at opportunities
for operational improvements through technology automation."

Non-Cooperative Surveillance System (NCSS) and the first operational
system of its kind in an air traffic control tower to provide
detection, positioning, and tracking of all targets on an airport
surface. Searidge is helping its customers with ATC-grade video, gap
filling/A-SMGCS augmentation, apron management, and remote tower
capabilities.
Working with industry leaders such as DFS, FAA, EUROCONTROL and NAV
CANADA, Searidge solutions are installed in sites throughout Europe,
