WATERLOO, On--Descartes Systems Group was named as a leading provider of software-as-a-service (SaaS)-based transportation management systems by analyst firm ARC Advisory Group in its benchmark report, Transportation Management Systems Global Market Research Study – Market Analysis and Forecast Through 2017 and based on 2012 revenues.
The ARC report defines TMS as: “A transportation management system (TMS) helps companies efficiently, reliably, and cost effectively move freight from origin to destination.”
Successfully managing transportation and logistics operations is dependent upon the effective collaboration of multiple parties across a broad range of functional areas, said ARC.
“Cloud-based solutions are a natural fit for these types of business problems and we expect this part of the market to grow faster than on-premise solutions for the next five years,” said Steve Banker, Service Director, Supply Chain Management at ARC Advisory Group.
“The strength of the Descartes solution set is that it is a broad, end-to-end vision of logistics based on an electronic platform supporting planning and execution, MRM, and global trade compliance.”
Since ARC completed the study, Descartes expanded its TMS capabilities through the acquisition of TMS and global trade management solutions provider KSD Software.
“Our focus on network-based SaaS and cloud solutions, embodied in the Descartes Logistics Technology Platform, has allowed us to provide our customers with the solutions they need to help efficiently, effectively and securely manage their movement of goods,” said Edward Ryan, Chief Commercial Officer at Descartes. “Our SaaS model and established community of logistics participants helps customers achieve results at a significantly faster pace than traditional solution providers and at a much lower total cost of ownership. Our strong global presence helps address the broader range of challenges our customers face and provides them with the local knowledge and support required to make them successful.”
