UPS Freight extends hours through Ontario facility

RICHMOND, Va. -- UPS Freight has expanded its pick-up and delivery hours for customers served through the company’s London, Ont., facility.

The expanded service window will have trucks on the street an hour and a half earlier each morning for deliveries in the Ontario area and staying out three hours later for pick-ups. The aim, according to UPS Freight officials, is for customers to be able to tender freight as much as three hours later in the day and still reach two-day delivery destinations as far south as Mississippi.

“This expansion of our service hours demonstrates the very deep commitment that we’re making to customers on both sides of the Canada-US border,” said UPS Freight president Jack Holmes.  “For freight shipments to and from Canada, UPS Freight is the standard others will be measured against.”

The service announcement is part of a year-long effort by UPS Freight to reduce transit times to and from Canada.  In all, nearly 1,000 transit times between Canadian points and the US have been reduced in 2009, according to officials.

UPS Freight also announced that veteran Canadian transportation specialist Allan Robison had joined the company as a vice-president of sales and will lead UPS Freight’s Canadian sales efforts. Until his retirement last year, Robison worked as president of Reimer Express.

“Few people have a better understanding of the trucking industry as it relates to Canada and the needs of the Canadian shipper. His addition to our team is a tremendous asset to both UPS and our customers,” said Holmes.
