Transpo Conference to focus on solutions to new transportation obstacles

TORONTO, Ont. -- Hear what both shippers and carriers have to say about the obstacles now confronting them: congestion, capacity issues, driver shortages, new hours of service regulations, border security programs and delays at the upcoming Transpo 2006 conference.

The conference, put on by the Canadian Industrial Transportation Association in partnership with Canadian Transportation & Logistics, is scheduled for the March 7 and 8 in the Toronto Congress Centre.

Attendees will also hear what senior industry representatives and the Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy Transport Canada have to say about policy needs and directions facing a new government after the election. The views of the U.S. as presented by Jessica LaCroy the U.S.Consul General, Toronto, Eric Couture from the U.S. Embassy,Ottawa and John Ficker, President NITL Arlington, Virginia.

Transportation Media editorial director Lou Smyrlis reports on this year's Transportation Buying Trends Survey. The survey, conducted in partnership with CITA and CITT, includes data on shipment volumes, rate increases, surcharge penetration and capacity for all modes across the Canadian market. And Dr. Alan Saipe, reporting on the first annual CITA benchmarking survey, will outline how shippers are coping with the challenges.

The Transpo Conference has limited seating and was sold out last year, so organizers are suggesting early registration to avoid disappointment
